There are three main types of fondue – cheese, meat and dessert. Today we are going to talk about cheese fondue. Before you plan a menu around cheese fondue, you have to first make sure that no one in your guests are not lactose intolerant. If you are not sure it is always a good idea to have other dishes on hand.
Since the cheese fondues are were first made in Switzerland, they are usually made from Swiss cheese… However you can also use other kinds of cheeses like Emmenthal, Gruyere and Apenzeller. Try out different variations of cheese fondue; you can make Italian, tomato based cheese fondue, creamy seafood and cheese fondue as well as mushroom and cheese fondue. To make your fondue party more exciting, try different dippers like French baguette, vegetables and even use sausages and shrimp. Here is a basic recipe to get you started!
What you need:
1 garlic clove, cut in half
2 cups white wine
1 tbsp lemon juice
3/4 lb Gruyere cheese
1/2 lb Emmenthal cheese
6 oz Apenzeller cheese
4 tbsp Kirsch
1 tsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp nutmeg.
What to do:
1. Rub the garlic in a fondue pot. Discard it afterwards.
2. Pour the wine and lemon juice in the pot. Warm it but don’t let it boil.
3. Lower the temperature then add the grated cheese.
4. Use a wooden to stir it.
5. Mix in all the remaining ingredients, including the pepper.
6. You will need to add more wine to thin out the cheese mixture. Or, if it is too runny simply add more cheese.
7. Enjoy!
This cheese fondue recipe will be enjoyed more when you abide by the traditional rules:
* If a woman drops her dipper in the cheese mix, she has to kiss the first man on her left.
* If a man drops his dipper in the cheese mix, he has to buy (or refill) a round of drinks for everybody.
